TORREY PINES SURF TEAM
The Torrey Pines Surf Club is open to all student surfers and body boarders at Torrey Pines High School. The primary purpose of our club is to get together and surf! We have lots of activities planned for the season:
- Practices will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5 pm starting 9/17/09 Club members can free surf with the group or participate in practice heats.
- We are fielding 2 competitive teams in the Interscholastic Surfing Federation (ISF), and we will participate in about 6 competitive events. Many of our members compete on the TP Surf Team, but it is not a requirement to be part of our club.
- We will participate in a competitive surf event called “The Game” towards the end of the season.
- Participate in community surf events and ocean related community service projects and other surf club events.
Surfers who want to participate in ANY of the surf club activities must fill out the surf club application and pay the membership dues.
The membership forms are available on the ISF website: www.isfsurfing.org. Dues for the season will be $260. Fees are the same even if a student joins later in the season, and are not refundable. Checks can be made out to: Torrey Pines Surf Club. Completed forms and membership dues can be brought to the meeting on 9/17 or mailed to:

Your membership fees go towards covering the cost of our club to join the ISF. The Interscholastic Surfing Federation is a non profit organization that schedules and manages the competition events for high school and middle schools in the coastal states. It is very expensive to run these events, obtain beach permits, and provide the necessary liability coverage for the surf competitions, club meetings and practices. Your membership fees also help to cover some of our coaching and administrative expenses, team T-Shirt, food for contests and the awards banquet.
We will be fielding 2 teams this season.
Our A Team will be very competitive and surfers must earn a spot on this team. Placement on the A team will be based on performance and participation and may change throughout the season at the coach’s discretion.

The B team will consist of surfers who actively participate in practices and show enthusiasm and sportsmanship. We will try to accommodate all surfers who want to participate in competitions. Competition rosters for each contest will be announced approximately 10 days in advance. Surfers must Email us by the Monday before the contest to confirm their availability. Otherwise, alternates will be assigned. We expect surfers to be courteous and let us know if they need to cancel so that we can find a replacement.
The Surf Team will also participate in another event series called “The Game” starting around March or April. Austin Ware, a professional surfer, will be back to help get our game on.
Our club is defined by us. We’re hoping that each family can donate time and energy to make the Torrey Pines Surf Club vital and fun. We need parents to help with shopping for food for contests, cook at contests, and help with the planning of our awards banquet. Please contact Debbie Buccigrossi at
